Weekend Treasures

A few of the little things found this weekend whilst out and about. I love the soft colours on the old sequin applique piece. This was from the most incredible vintage clothes shop. I could have spent hours in there just drooling at all the loveliness. The beaded purse was from another antiques emporium but in a rather sorry state. After some repairs and a nice gentle wash it looks much improved. I love these old lustres - I think of them as room jewellery. They need a good wash too. The large silver locket opens up - it reminds me of a pocket watch but is meant to hold photo's. I think it will look good on a piece of narrow velvet ribbon. My daughter bought me a real gem which I have coveted for so long - a vintage top hat which I have blogged about on http://thenostalgiafairy.com/

The books were a bargain from a charity shop - half the original price so they cost me a grand total of £1.20p. Lots of inspiration there. The clothes brush is too cute - hand painted and at 50p a real snip.
Despite the Bank Holiday weekend weather - iffy to say the least, I quite enjoyed it.
Hope you enjoyed your weekend too whatever you chose to do.
Until next time,
Hugs,

Vintage Top Hat

Vintage Top Hat, originally uploaded by Thenostalgiafairy.

Ohhhh, when my daughter bought me this as a gift from a vintage clothes shop I almost floated out of there!!!! It needed some tlc which I was more than happy to do and now it looks really good. It is a collapsible opera hat - so that the owner could sit on it during the opera and with a light tap open it up again. All very clever!!!!

~ Home Sweet Home ~

I find that some of the nicest little 'vignettes' in my home happen quite by accident. Not contrived, just things looking right together. I glanced at this little collection on my windowsill and liked it. I hope that you do too!
(View it large to see the details)
Until next time,

~ Old Things ~

I bought this huge hatpin many years ago from an antiques market. I have several more but I try not to collect too many of one thing. I think an open mind is essential when you go on the hunt for old bits and pieces.
The thrill for me is finding something that I am immediately drawn to - it's an instinct born from years of practice trawling through lots and lots of tat.
If something is out of my price range or I hesitate and then later wish I had bought it, I have learned to be philosophical. I used to fret over 'lost treasures' but I believe that everything comes to those who wait. I have found this to be true time and time again over the years.I love the clasp on these old costume pearls and I do have quite a few of these. If all of these lovely things could tell us stories, of who wore them and where, wouldn't that be fascinating. My mum wore pearls on her wedding day and I wore a large silver locket on mine. Memories are treasures too.
Until next time.

Hand Knitted Lavender Bags

I bought a bag of lovely fine wool from a charity shop. After making some miniature cushions for my dollshouse I knitted these lavender bags.
The possibilities for decorating the bags are endless and so much fun to do. I love the fresh, clean scent of lavender - much nicer than any artificial room sprays which seem to make me cough.
I'm off now to knit some more.
Until next time,
Cherish you creativity - it's priceless.
Hugs,

Glorious Green Feathers

As soon as I spotted this feather stole in a charity shop I had to buy it. I adore the colour and am always drawn to anything glamorous. I made the crepe paper collar adding old lace, real silver glitter, buttons and angel hair.

Left-over Wool Creations

I have been able to knit for as long as I can remember. The result is that I have amassed lots and lots of left-over bits of wool. To use them up I have made quite a few of these crocheted throws. The nice thing about these is that they grow very quickly and it is easy to add to them as and when time allows. If the odd hole develops over time I leave well alone - I feel that it adds to the vintagey charm. The teddy is reclining on two silk hankie cases which I have had for a while - one is hand painted and is so pretty. The teddy cost 10p and I knitted the jumper. The flower garland came from a charity shop. I rarely spend much on the things I bring home - I think that finding little inexpensive 'treasures' is so satisfying.
At the moment the rain is pouring down yet again so I'm off to my craft room to make some more pages for a nostalgia scrapbook I have started.
Until next time,
Enjoy your creating,
Sandi :)

Sugar Swizzle Sticks

When the weather is wet, dark and gloomy there is only one thing to do. Make a mug of coffee, add one of these sugar swizzle sticks.......

...... cosy up and read. One of my all time favourite books.

Lost In the Land of Fairy

A fallen tree lying on the ground invites you to rest a while - but time has no meaning in the land of fairy.
"Within the fairy country I knew nothing of the passing of time, and so for me it did not pass". Morgaine speaking from The Mists of Avalon, chapter 13, by Marion Zimmer Bradley.

About Books and Other Things

This is yours truly - taken while I am busily uploading these photo's.

The things that we choose to surround ourselves with reflect who we are, what interests and pleases us. These are some of my favourite bits and pieces which I have in my craft room. Make what you will of this little display.
Just some of my books which I have yet to sort out.
Is there anything here that you recognise?
I have always loved books.
I have a lot of them.

I'm off now to start reading 'The Mists of Avalon' for the umpteenth time.
Goodnight.

Flower Power Still Rules ~

I made this for myself yesterday - a girl can never have too many pretty things to wear.

Dancing Shoes ~

I love shoes. I don't mean the everyday, practical kind. I'm talking about pretty shoes in glorious colours.
Shoes that sparkle and dazzle.
Shoes adorned with flowers - fairy shoes.
Yes, I do love shoes. And floaty clothes.

My Craft/Play Room

I love bead curtains, so when I got my very own room to do with as I pleased I had to have one. My daughter bought this for me and I love it!

The thing I am enjoying most about having a room to myself is that I can display lots of my bits and pieces collected over the years.
I have a fold down table where I can work......
......and shelves to store supplies.
Ah, magical....but I don't think it will look so tidy for very long.
Enjoy your crafting,
Until next time.

Playtime ~

When it's too hot to do any work, why not play? These sugar mice were left over from last Christmas. I added a few extra's...........

........I think they look quite pretty now.
