Evening Shadows ~

Now this is more like it...................evening sunshine in which to bathe, however briefly.
Following days of rain, greyness, leaden skies, horrid, gloomy, wet weather at last we get a little sunshine. My daughter has returned following a few days away so yet more sunshine in my life.
I urged her to take some photo's whilst the sun was still shining. I wanted to show you my latest creative obsession. Little knitted brooches decorated with all manner of dainty delights.
Creativity keeps me sane........as long as I am making something I am happy.
Does that mean I am easily pleased or just that I have reached the conclusion that no amount of material possesions can compare to the sheer pleasure to be gained from creativity.
I'm off now to indulge in another pleasure - a cup of tea.

Paper Flowers ~

It all started casually when I bought a pack of coloured tissue paper.
I wanted to decorate the top of a gift box with something a bit different.
So I made a flower.
Then one thing lead to another.
More flowers were made.
Each one more exotic than the last.
Gaudy, blowsy blooms, sprinkled with glitter of course!!!!
Suddenly I had a bouquet of them.
I can display these in a bowl until I need one for another gift.

Pink Pompom Mice

I am obsessed with pompoms at the moment - so much potential in something as simple as a tiny ball of wool :)
I love these little mice, more to add to my collection. I must take some pics of my mouse collection. I don't have dozens but the ones I do have are quite old. Sweeeeeet, but I'm not so keen on the real thing, except of course if they stay outside. I wouldn't want to see them indoors!

Anyway, life has been a little hectic here just lately, hence the heavy use of photo's from my Flickr site.

Enchanted ~

Sssssshhhhhh.......if you are very, very quiet it may be possible to catch a glimpse of the tiny folk who live here. It is still dark but they are really early risers. They start the days work as soon as the sun comes up. Combing the woodland floor for the tiny purple gems which hide among the leaves and braken.

Teeny birds feathers help make their homes comfortable and warm.

It's still a little too dark yet to see them emerging.

Ah, that's better and see how tiny their world is.

They are rather shy you know.

Perhaps they have heard us. Maybe we should creep away and allow them to continue with their busy little lives.

I shall put the lid back on and hide them from our gaze.

;)

Baby it's cold outside

Yes it's very cold here at the moment but the sun is shining so the world looks bright and fresh. Miss Rose wanted to visit a friend in town but didn't have a suitable hat so I made one for her. I found the wool in a charity shop, it's really fine with a touch of silver thread - so pretty.

I think it looks really cute on her.

As I find it difficult to stay still for very long and get itchy fingers I tend to knit whilst watching the television. Little projects.......at the moment I am obsessed with these little flowers. I have made lots in different colours, good for trimming things or turning into brooches.

I also made this snuggly shrug for Miss Sindy recently.

From some soft fluffy wool that my mum gave to me.

Little bits of leftover yarn are so useful, the possibilities are endless.

Almost Finished ~

A lovely little armoire which needed some attention...............

Ah - that's much better.

Amazing what a generous dose of tlc can achieve.

Now for the next stage - filling it with all the household linen.

Not just yet though - I need a rest and so does my supervisor ;0)
Ah well - at least I can tick something else off my never ending list of 'Things to do'.

My Latest Project

I bought this many years ago and it is really too small to store clothes in so I have decided to give it some tlc and use it for household linen, blankets, etc. Can't wait to get stuck in :0)

Butterflies and Glitter

From Ikea - simple little sets of drawers with so much potential for decoration. I cut the butterflies out of a magazine and sprinkled vintage style mica flakes over the top. The rest of the drawers are coated with a layer of very fine glitter.
The nicest thing about these is they can be used in any room in the house and seem to fit in with any kind of decorating style. Mine are in the bedroom and I keep lots of tiny treasures in them.

A Quick Project

I am always pleased when I unearth something that can be re-used following a quick make-over. This pair of curtain tie-backs were a tad boring.

So I stuck on some crocheted lace, a scrap of net and a vintage flower.

They are now holding back my bedroom curtains.

I love quick and easy little projects.

A Coat or Two of Paint

When I was a child most people that I knew had one of these cabinets to house the best and more delicate pieces of china and glass. As with all things they eventually fell out of favour and 'storage units' replaced them. These units were usually made from some type of veneered wood and had absolutely no character whatsoever. My mum was no exception to this fashion fad and so the trusty old china cabinet was slung out. A few years ago I found one of these cabinets in an antique shop for a ridiculously low price and promptly bought it. I needed somewhere to house my ever growing collection of bits and pieces that would keep them all reasonably safe from the antics of two cats and a dog with a very large wafty tail.

I bought very fine grade wire wool used by furniture restorers and a can of wax remover. The colour of the wood shone through again and I was quite pleased with it. Earlier this year I decided that the interior needed cheering up so I removed the mirror from the back and painted the inside with this soft duck egg blue. It shows up everything inside to better advantage now and blends with the room too.

I have blogged about this dresser previously but included it again as another example of how even the most tired piece of furniture can be improved with a coat or two of paint.

This is the wallpaper at the back of the cabinet and as you can see it all blends really well.

This print was a bargain from an antiques centre but the frame was in really poor condition. I sanded it down and gave it a couple of coats of a slightly different green to blend in with the colours in the picture.

How easy it is to revitalise things with little more than a can of paint and is an inexpensive alternative to buying new in these cash strapped times.

I am now eying up my kitchen dining table as the next project for my trusty paintbrush. I need to decide the colour I shall use for it so I'm off to study paint charts.

Witch's Kitchen

I was pottering around in the kitchen daydreaming whilst washing down surfaces and arranging some late blooms from the garden.

I got to wondering what a witch would wear over her black clothes when she was going about her daily duties. Ok, just stay with me on this one - I have a vivid imagination!!!!

I decided that it would need to be a glamorous apron.

Something like this..........

For now one of my kitchen chairs is modelling it.

Bring on Halloween!!!!!!

P.S. from my previous post - there are cobwebs on the light shade but no eye of newt and bats blood bubbling away on the stove. Just crystallized rose petals and edible glitter standing on the worktop ready for a cake making session. I also released that lovely butterfly back to the freedom of the Buddleia.

A Fairy Story ~

Mmmmm - I wonder what this demure little miss is contemplating?

Ah - I think I know. Such an inviting little bed. All made up with deliciously soft cotton sheets, the most divine cover and look at those lace trimmed pillows.

Shabby pink metal too....how can a fairy resist such temptation?

She couldn't,of course. I can't say that I blame her in the slightest! It's such a grey and dismal day yet again. Raining just for a change and very lowering to the spirits. The only thing to do on days such as these is play!!!! Or maybe climb back into a cosy bed but it's a little too early for that. So I instead of sleeping I think I will put the kettle on and make a nice pot of tea.
